An arborist assessment is useful when tree health, structural condition, risk, protected status or development impact needs evidence before work is chosen. It differs from an ordinary quote. A quote describes work and price, while an assessment should state the question examined, observations, limits and recommendations. First contact should identify the tree, the concern, any recent change and who needs to rely on the result. Photographs and prior documents help frame the question but do not replace an appropriate site inspection.
The intended use matters. A homeowner comparing pruning and removal may need a different level of documentation from an owner supporting a protected-tree application or a development team considering a tree protection zone. No report can guarantee approval or declare that a living tree carries zero risk. Ask the actual assessor to confirm qualifications, assessment method, report format, exclusions and whether the work addresses the relevant ACT process.
